Rome Trastevere Station (3.70 km) -
Located in the heart of the picturesque Trastevere district, Rome Trastevere Station serves both local and inter-regional destinations. There is a regular train down to Rome Fiumicino (Leonardo da Vinci) airport and it is linked to the station near St Peter's Church in the Vatican in the opposite direction. Trams and buses to the centre of Rome depart from the piazza outside the station.
Castel Sant'Angelo (4.23 km) -
Rome's Castel Sant'Angelo was originally the mausoleum of Emperor Hadrian, but was later converted into a castle by the Vatican authorities and has also been used as a prison. It is named after a Pope had a vision of the Angel Michael at the site. Located right by the River Tiber, it is worth a visit for its impressive exterior and the views across Rome from inside are excellent.
Vatican Museums (3.79 km) -
The stunning Vatican Museums are absolutely unmissable on a trip to Rome. You pass through a maze of elaborately decorated rooms before reaching the most famous part of the museums, the Sistine Chapel. Although this is the highlight, there are many fabulous rooms to be seen including: the Museo Pio-Clementino, the Gallery of Maps and the Gallery of Tapestries, the Raphael Stanze (four rooms designed by the great Renaissance artist), the Borgia Apartments, the Museo Chiaramonti and the Pinacoteca art gallery.
Galleria Spada (4.22 km) -
The Galleria Spada is a collection of paintings and Roman sculpture housed in the Palazzo Spada. There are works by artists such as Titian and Guercino and in one of the corridors (seen on a guided tour), Borromini’s clever use of perspective makes the room appear much longer than it actually is.
San Paolo fuori le Mura (4.31 km) -
San Paolo fuori le Mura is one of four main basilicas in Rome and is built on the site where Saint Paul was reportedly buried. Although partly destroyed by fire in the 19th century, the church still maintains many of its original features.
Palazzo Corsini National Gallery (3.95 km) -
Rome’s Palazzo Corsini National Gallery houses an interesting collection of art including works by Caravaggio, Rubens and Van Dyck. After exploring the gallery, you can visit the Rome Botanical Gardens which are found in the grounds of the palazzo.

River Boats of Rome (4.15 km) -
Battelli di Roma (River Boats of Rome) offer you the opportunity to see Rome from a different angle. They run circular tourist cruises with commentary from the jetty by Castel Sant’Angelo down through the heart of Rome to the pretty Isola Tiberina then back up to the Risorgimento Bridge. You can also take your pick from two dinner cruises and a wine cruise or take the pleasant trip from the Marconi Bridge to the excavations at the ancient Roman site of Ostia Antica. Battelli di Roma also run one-way trips from Isola Tiberina to the Flaminio Stadium (Italy’s national rugby stadium), with various stops on the way.
