Piazza Navona (0.01 km) - Piazza Navona is Rome's most famous square, recognisable for its three fountains. The spot where Piazza Navona stands used to be the site of a Roman stadium. Now, the atmosphere is buzzing with various cafes lining the square and artists plying their wares. During December, Piazza Navona is also home to an excellent Christmas market.

Piazza Colonna (0.39 km) - Piazza Colonna is the very heart of Rome and is home to Palazzo Chigi, official residence of the Italian Prime Minister. Palazzo Altemps (0.14 km) - Rome’s Palazzo Altemps is home to part of the excellent National Roman Museum (the other half is in Palazzo Massimo on the other side of the city). The museum is unmissable for enthusiasts of the Roman era, displaying a wealth of well-preserved life-size statues, ceramics, bronzes and mosaics found across the city. The palazzo is also decorated with Renaissance frescoes and paintings. Particularly worth a look are the elaborately sculptured tombs in the Sarcophagus Room, the frescoes in the Four Seasons room and the ceiling of the Loggia.

Castel Sant'Angelo (0.45 km) - Rome's Castel Sant'Angelo was originally the mausoleum of Emperor Hadrian, but was later converted into a castle by the Vatican authorities and has also been used as a prison. It is named after a Pope had a vision of the Angel Michael at the site. Located right by the River Tiber, it is worth a visit for its impressive exterior and the views across Rome from inside are excellent.

Among the Italian artists featured are Caravaggio, Lippi, Tintoretto, Raphael and Titian whereas there are also works by Memling and Bruegel and a selection of busts and ancient sculpture.
