Rome Ostiense Station (1.64 km) -
Rome Ostiense Station serves both local and inter-regional routes and is also on the Metro B line. A long-distance train from Turin passes through on the way down to Sicily and the beach at Ostia Lido and the excavations at Ostia Antica are easily accessible from the Lido di Ostia station nearby. There is also a regular train to Rome Fiumicino (Leonardo da Vinci) airport.
Rome Trastevere Station (0.77 km) -
Located in the heart of the picturesque Trastevere district, Rome Trastevere Station serves both local and inter-regional destinations. There is a regular train down to Rome Fiumicino (Leonardo da Vinci) airport and it is linked to the station near St Peter's Church in the Vatican in the opposite direction. Trams and buses to the centre of Rome depart from the piazza outside the station.
Crypta Balbi (2.25 km) -
Crypta Balbi is an interesting archeological museum built on the site of an ancient Roman theatre, whose ruins can be visited beneath the museum.
Galleria Spada (2.02 km) -
The Galleria Spada is a collection of paintings and Roman sculpture housed in the Palazzo Spada. There are works by artists such as Titian and Guercino and in one of the corridors (seen on a guided tour), Borromini’s clever use of perspective makes the room appear much longer than it actually is.
Rome Synagogue (2.02 km) -
Rome Synagogue, located in the heart of the old ghetto, is the principal Jewish monument in the city. You can take a guided tour of the synagogue then visit the interesting museum which details the history of Roman Jews.
Piazza Bocca della Verità (2.07 km) -
Piazza Bocca della Veritàis home to Rome’s most unusual monument, the Mouth of Truth. Located in the portico of the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, the Mouth of Truth is actually a drain cover in the shape of a head and was used as a primitive lie-detector because it was believed that if someone told a lie whilst placing their hand inside the Mouth of Truth, it would be bitten off! The piazza is built on the site of the oldest forum in ancient Rome and is also home to two of Rome's oldest temples: the Temple of Portunus (now a church) and the Temple of Hercules Victor (or Temple of Vesta) which is the oldest intact temple in the city.
Isola Tiberina (1.99 km) -
The Isola Tiberiana is the small but beautiful island in the middle of the Tiber, linked by bridges to the historic centre of Rome and the attractive Trastevere district.
San Paolo fuori le Mura (1.39 km) -
San Paolo fuori le Mura is one of four main basilicas in Rome and is built on the site where Saint Paul was reportedly buried. Although partly destroyed by fire in the 19th century, the church still maintains many of its original features.
Palazzo Corsini National Gallery (1.85 km) -
Rome’s Palazzo Corsini National Gallery houses an interesting collection of art including works by Caravaggio, Rubens and Van Dyck. After exploring the gallery, you can visit the Rome Botanical Gardens which are found in the grounds of the palazzo.
